To make it easier for you to calculate your arrears, you can download this simple Excel file to do the deed: salary-arrears-estimator.xls
To save the file, right click and choose “Save Link as” or “Save as”.
Now that the new CA has been signed, you’re probably curious how much your arrears will be.
Just calculate it using this formula:
(New CA salary (as at Feb 1, 2007) - Salary as at Feb 1, 2007) x 13
+
(New CA salary (as at Jan 1, 2008) - Salary as at Jan 1, 2008) x 4
For example, say you’re a journalist at the start of Grade One, your salary (old CA) would have been RM2,280. You would have got an automatic jump in Feb 2007 which would’ve amounted to RM80. Therefore, your salary would have increased this way:
RM2,280 + RM80 = RM2,360
Under the 2007-2010 CA, your pay would have been adjusted to RM2,705 (RM2620 + RM85).
Therefore, your arrears would be RM2705 - RM2360 = 345 X 13 months
However, you would’ve gotten another jump in Jan 2008. So your pay (old CA) would have increased to RM2,440 (RM2,360 + RM80).
Under the new CA, your pay is now RM2790 (RM2,705 + RM85)
Therefore your arrears for 2008 is RM2790 - RM2440 = 350 x 4 months
The total arrears for salary that you would receive is (345 X 13 months) + (350 x 4)
However, there is an exception. If you are at the bar of your grade, just subtract your pay under the new CA with your pay under the old CA. Then, multiply 17 months.
